How it works

Three steps, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Open Add Password

Press ⌃⌥Space and type “protect pdf”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.

  2. 02

    Drop PDFs, set a password

Add one PDF or a batch. Type the password in Password and again in Confirm; the strength meter shows how strong it is.

  3. 03

    Press Add Password

Encrypted copies appear in a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench. The unprotected originals stay where they were, so keep them somewhere safe.

The details

Small things, done properly.

  • Encrypted with AES

Each protected copy is encrypted with AES, so the contents can’t be opened without the password.

  • Asks in Preview and browsers

The password prompt appears in Preview, web browsers and any other standard PDF reader, wherever the file ends up.

  • One password, whole batch

Drop several PDFs and lock them all with the same password in one go.

  • Typed twice, strength shown

Entering it in Password and Confirm guards against a typo, and the strength meter shows how strong your choice is.

  • The password stays here

Your password never leaves your Mac. Encryption happens locally with PDFKit, with no account and no upload.

FAQ

Questions about Add Password

Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.

How do I password-protect a PDF on a Mac?

Open Add Password, drop the PDF in, type a password and confirm it. Press Add Password and the encrypted copy is saved to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench.

What encryption does Add Password use?

AES. Any standard reader, including Preview and web browsers, then asks for the password before it opens the file.

Can I protect several PDFs with one password?

Yes. One password covers the whole batch, so every PDF you drop in is locked with the same password.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. The password never leaves your Mac. Encryption happens on the device, with no account, no cloud and no analytics.

What if I forget the password?

MightyBench can’t recover it: Remove Password needs the password and never guesses or cracks one. Keep the unprotected original, which Add Password leaves untouched.

Plus forty-eight other tools.

Add Password comes with every other MightyBench tool: video, audio, images, PDFs and on-device AI in one native Mac app. Pay $39 once for one Mac, with every MightyBench 1.x update included.
