Point it at a folder and it finds exact copies by their contents, even renamed ones, or groups photos that are nearly identical. You review every group before anything moves.

How it works
Three steps, start to finish.
-
01
Open Find Duplicates
Press ⌃⌥Space and type “duplicates”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.
-
02
Add folders, pick a match
Drop folders or files. Choose Exact copies or Similar photos, and whether to Keep the oldest or the newest file in each group.
-
03
Review, then Move to Trash
Tick the copies to remove and press Move to Trash. They go to the Trash, so you can put them back, and nothing is written to Downloads.
The details
Small things, done properly.
-
Contents, not names
Exact copies are matched by size, then by a SHA-256 hash of the contents, so renamed copies are found and different files that share a name are not.
-
Similar photos, grouped
Apple Vision compares what’s in each picture to group bursts, re-saved copies and other near-identical shots.
-
You see every group
Each group is listed with checkboxes before anything moves, and one file in every group is always kept.
-
Keep oldest or newest
Keep the first copy you ever saved or the most recent one. The Keep setting decides which file in each group stays.
-
The Trash, not gone for good
Files you remove go to the Trash, so anything removed by mistake can be put back until you empty it.
-
Compared on your Mac
Your files are read and compared locally. Nothing is uploaded, and no list of your files ever leaves your Mac.

FAQ
Questions about Find Duplicates
Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.
How do I find duplicate files on a Mac?
Open Find Duplicates, drop a folder in and leave Match on Exact copies. Review the groups it finds, tick the copies to remove and press Move to Trash.
Does it find renamed duplicates?
Yes. Exact copies compares file contents, first by size and then by SHA-256 hash, so a renamed copy still matches. Two different files that happen to share a name don’t.
Can it find similar photos, not just exact copies?
Yes. Choose Similar photos and Apple Vision groups near-identical shots, such as bursts and re-saved copies, for you to review.
Are duplicates deleted permanently?
No. Files you choose go to the Trash, so you can put them back until you empty it. Every group keeps at least one file.
Which copy does Find Duplicates keep?
You decide. Set Keep to Oldest or Newest, and review every group before you press Move to Trash.
Does it upload my files to compare them?
No. Files are compared on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded and there’s no account.
