Intelligence · Translate

Swap the language, keep the timings.

Drop in a subtitle file and only the lines change: numbering and timings stay put. Text files, PDFs and photos translate too, offline once languages are installed.

How it works

Three steps, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Open Translate

Press ⌃⌥Space and type “translate”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.

  2. 02

    Drop files, choose a language

Add TXT, Markdown, SRT, PDF or image files, then pick a language under Translate to. It starts on your Mac’s own language.

  3. 03

    Press Translate

TXT files, or SRT for subtitles, land in a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench. Your originals stay exactly where they were.

The details

Small things, done properly.

  • Subtitles stay subtitles

A translated SRT keeps every number and timing from the original, so it still lines up with the video.

  • Offline once installed

Languages download once from Apple. After that, translation keeps working with no internet connection.

  • PDFs and photos too

PDFs and photos are read with on-device OCR first, then translated and saved as plain text.

  • Source detected for you

There’s no need to say what the original is written in. The source language is detected automatically; you only pick the target.

  • Straight to Burn In Subtitles

Use Send to next tool to pass a translated SRT to Burn In Subtitles and draw the captions into your video.

FAQ

Questions about Translate

Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.

How do I translate a document on a Mac?

Open Translate, drop in a TXT, Markdown or PDF file, choose the target language and press Translate. The TXT translation lands in a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench.

Can I translate SRT subtitles?

Yes. You get an SRT back with the same numbering and timings as the original; only the subtitle text is translated. Burn In Subtitles can take it straight from there.

Does Translate work offline?

Yes, once your languages are installed. Each one is downloaded once from Apple, and after that Apple’s Translation framework needs no connection.

Which languages does Translate support?

You choose from the languages Apple’s Translation framework provides, and the Translate to menu is preset to the language your Mac uses.

Can it translate a photo or a scanned PDF?

Yes. The text in a photo or PDF is picked up by on-device OCR, translated, and saved as a TXT file.

Is my text sent to a translation server?

No. Apple’s Translation framework does the work locally. Nothing is uploaded, and there’s no account to sign in to.
