The details
Small things, done properly.
-
See that it’s hearing you
A live level meter and waveform move as you talk, so you can tell the microphone is picking you up from the first word.
-
Pause without splitting
Pause and resume inside the same take. One thought stays in one file, however many times you stop to think.
-
Take after take
Record several takes in a row, give each one a name, then save the whole set together in one go.
-
A transcript on the side
Switch on Save transcript and each recording comes with a TXT file, written on your Mac by Apple’s speech model.
-
M4A or 16-bit WAV
M4A is AAC at 48 kHz and 192 kbps; WAV is 16-bit. Either way there’s no FFmpeg to install, only microphone permission.
-
It all stays on your Mac
Recording and transcription both happen on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and there’s no account to sign up for.

FAQ
Questions about Record Audio
Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.
How do I record audio on a Mac?
Open Record Audio, choose your microphone and press ⌘R. Press ⌘R again to stop, then save. You get an M4A or WAV file, plus a TXT transcript if Save transcript is on.
Can I get a transcript of a voice recording?
Yes. Turn on Save transcript and choose the language. Apple’s speech model writes the transcript on your Mac, so the recording is never uploaded.
Can I pause a recording and carry on?
Yes. Pause and resume inside the same take and everything stays in one file. Start a new take whenever you want a separate recording.
Does Record Audio need FFmpeg?
No. The only thing it asks for is permission to use your microphone; there’s no FFmpeg or Homebrew involved.
Can I choose which microphone to use?
Yes. Pick any microphone from the Input menu, whether it’s your Mac’s built-in mic or one you’ve connected.
