Audio · Trim Audio

Cut to a hundredth of a second, with fades so it never clicks.

One file opens on its waveform: drag the range, play it back, nudge it again. Drop a batch instead and take the same intro off every recording at once.

How it works

Three steps, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Open Trim Audio

Press ⌃⌥Space and type “cut mp3”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.

  2. 02

Set the range and the finish

Drag the range on the waveform or type a Start and End to a hundredth of a second. Keep Fade in & out on, then pick M4A, MP3, WAV or FLAC.

  3. 03

    Press Trim

The part you kept is saved in your chosen format to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench. The original recording isn’t touched.

The details

Small things, done properly.

  • Listen as you drag

A single file opens on its waveform. Drag the range and play it as you go, so you hear exactly where each cut falls.

  • Down to a hundredth

Start and End are set to a hundredth of a second, like 0:03.25, so a cut can land just before a word rather than in it.

  • Fades that stop the click

Turn on Fade in & out and the sound eases in at the start and out at the end, so the cut never clicks.

  • Undo with ⌘Z

Went too far? Press ⌘Z to step back, or reset to the whole file and choose the range again.

  • One cut for the whole batch

Drop several files and set one start and end for all of them, the quick way to remove the same intro from every recording.

  • Seven formats in, four out

Opens MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, OGG and Opus, and saves the trimmed part as M4A, MP3, WAV or FLAC.

FAQ

Questions about Trim Audio

Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.

How do I cut an MP3 on a Mac?

Open Trim Audio, drop the MP3 in and drag the range on its waveform. Press Trim and the part you kept is saved to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench; the original stays as it was.

Can I trim several audio files at once?

Yes. Drop a batch and set one start and end time, and every file is trimmed to that range. It’s an easy way to remove the same intro from a whole series.

How do I stop the cut from clicking?

Leave Fade in & out switched on. The sound fades in at the start and out at the end, so the cut never clicks.

Can I trim OGG and Opus files?

Yes. Trim Audio opens OGG and Opus along with MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF and FLAC. Save the result as M4A, MP3, WAV or FLAC.

Does Trim Audio need FFmpeg?

Yes. MightyBench installs FFmpeg through Homebrew in one click the first time you need it, or you can point it to your own copy.
