How it works

Three steps, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Open Compress Images

Press ⌃⌥Space and type “shrink photos”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.

  2. 02

    Drag Quality, watch the size

Add HEIC, JPEG, PNG, TIFF or WebP. Choose JPEG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, PNG or TIFF, set Quality (10–100%) and add a Max width if you need one.

  3. 03

    Press Compress

Lighter copies, saved without metadata, go to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench. Your originals are left alone.

The details

Small things, done properly.

  • Before and after, side by side

The preview puts the original next to the compressed version, with the exact new file size updating as you move the slider.

  • Same pixels, unless you say

Images keep their pixel dimensions. Set a maximum width only when you also want large photos scaled down.

  • Metadata left out

Compressed files are saved without metadata, which shaves off a little more space and leaves location details behind.

  • WebP and AVIF on tap

Save as WebP or AVIF as well as JPEG, HEIC, PNG and TIFF. WebP comes from MightyBench’s own bundled encoder, not FFmpeg.

  • Never sent anywhere

Photos are compressed on your Mac with no upload, no account and no cloud, so private pictures stay private.

FAQ

Questions about Compress Images

Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.

How do I reduce an image’s file size on a Mac?

Open Compress Images, drop the photo in and drag the Quality slider until the preview looks right. Press Compress and the smaller copy goes to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench.

Will compressing change the image dimensions?

No. Images keep the same pixel dimensions unless you set a maximum width, in which case wider images are scaled down to fit it.

Can I see how it looks before saving?

Yes. A side-by-side before and after preview updates as you move the slider, along with the exact new file size.

Does it remove EXIF data from photos?

Yes. Compressed images are saved without metadata, which also takes a little off the file size.

Can I compress photos to WebP or AVIF?

Yes. Choose WebP or AVIF from the Format list. Both are built in, so there’s no FFmpeg or extra download involved.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Compress Images runs entirely on your Mac. There’s no account, no cloud and no analytics.
