How it works

Three steps, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Open Extract Audio

Press ⌃⌥Space and type “mp4 to mp3”, or pick it from MightyBench’s menu bar icon.

  2. 02

Choose a Format and a Track

Add MOV, MP4, M4V, MKV, WebM, AVI or MTS. Pick MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or Original, and choose the Track when a video has more than one.

  3. 03

    Press Extract Audio

Each audio file is named after its video and saved to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench. The videos themselves are never changed.

The details

Small things, done properly.

  • Original: instant and lossless

Choose Original and the audio stream is copied as-is, with no re-encoding, so it’s instant and sounds identical to the source.

  • The track you want

When a video carries more than one audio track, choose which one to take from the Track menu.

  • Named after the video

Every audio file takes its video’s name, so a folder of lecture recordings comes out as a matching set of audio files.

  • Seven video formats

Extract from MOV, MP4, M4V, MKV, WebM, AVI and MTS, and save the sound as MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC.

  • Pass it straight on

Send to next tool hands the new audio file to another MightyBench tool, so you’re not hunting for it in Finder.

FAQ

Questions about Extract Audio

Anything else? Email support@mightybench.com and a person will reply.

How do I convert an MP4 to MP3 on a Mac?

Open Extract Audio, drop the MP4 in, leave Format on MP3 and press Extract Audio. The MP3 is named after the video and saved to a new dated folder in Downloads › MightyBench.

What does the Original format do?

It copies the audio stream exactly as it is inside the video, with no re-encoding, which makes it instant and lossless.

Can I choose which audio track to extract?

Yes. When a video has more than one audio track, pick the one you want from the Track menu before you press Extract Audio.

Can I extract audio from several videos at once?

Yes. Drop several videos and each gets its own audio file, named after the video it came from. If one fails, you can still keep the rest.

Will my video files be changed?

No. The videos are never touched. New audio files are written to a staging folder and published to a fresh dated folder when the batch finishes.

Does Extract Audio need FFmpeg?

Yes. One click installs FFmpeg through Homebrew, or point MightyBench to your own copy. After that, extraction runs entirely on your Mac.
